Development and history
Since 1995, IDEAL Pack GmbH has developed into a group of companies with a comprehensive range of services and over 600 employees.
In 2022, we consistently continued the conversion of our fleet to electric vehicles. We were also able to win new customers from a wide range of industries: From corporate merchandising and trendy beverage brands to energy bars and a large branded goods company. As a result, our team grew to a good 600 employees. The company Ideal-Pharma Packaging, founded in 2018, was sold to investors.
In 2021, we were also able to acquire new customers, e.g. from the garden sprinkler, fitness influencer, nutritional supplement and event management sectors, as well as a well-known fasting clinic. The strong development in the area of e-commerce/fulfilment thus continued. To this end, we had put additional interfaces into operation. We further strengthened our measures for efficient energy use; the first own charging stations for our electric vehicle fleet went into operation.
Actually, 2020 was supposed to be the year of our 25th anniversary. With Covid-19, however, everything turned out quite differently: First, of course, our anniversary celebration in April was cancelled. This was followed by a drop in order volume due to the lockdown and extensive measures to improve hygiene in everyday operations.
Fortunately, several of our customers were able to noticeably increase their orders due to the trend towards online shopping – mainly in the food and personal care sector. Our own sales activities via platforms such as Ebay and Amazon, as well as several newly acquired customers from the food, cosmetics, electromobility, disinfection and fastening technology sectors, also contributed to a successful 2020. We were even able to keep all our employees on board despite some difficult circumstances.
The year was marked by investments: The construction of another hall with 5,800 sqm expands our capacities, the new solar power plant with 750 kw/p reduces our CO2 footprint and about 30 new data interfaces dramatically accelerate the connection of new customers. We welcomed new customers in the food sector, stationary retail and also production agencies. Never before have we been allowed to package so many Advent calendars, including extremely high-quality ones. Medical device packaging is now also part of the Ideal Group portfolio: the Ideal-Pharma Packaging audit was successfully completed.
And again the focus is on growth through new customers: Dinkelacker, Kaco new energy, Sylvie Meis and others choose fulfillment and other logistics services through IDEAL GROUP. For existing customers we realize various new projects, e.g. in the context of Amazon FBA. Accordingly, we continue to expand our personnel capacities. In addition, two new companies were founded in 2018. Firstly, IDEAL Pharma Packaging GmbH, through which we can specifically strengthen our Pharma/Cosmetics competence area. Secondly, IDEAL Alpha GmbH, which provides its customers from the B2B and D2C sectors with an infrastructure tailored to e-commerce. Through IDEAL Alpha, we are now in a position to take over the entire value chain of our customers. A true enrichment for the entire group.
This year, we again welcome several new customers, including Knauf-Bauprodukte, for example. Two newly built halls bring us another 7,000 sqm of production space, which helps to optimise the processes in our food logistics. The result is a renewed increase in personnel – actively supported by our new city office for personnel recruitment. In the pharmaceutical sector, we pass the internal GDP audit (Good Distribution Practice) of a demanding customer for the second time.
Not only in the year of the European Football Championship are we responsible for the logistics of the UEFA online shop, but in 2016 the articles are turning particularly fast. Various new customers such as Matrema from Gräfeling are acquired. We expand our pick warehouse from one to three floors – the same space requirements, but more favourable conditions for our customers. The production area is also being expanded: the plans for a further 7,000 sqm in 2017 have been completed. Coca Cola once again entrusts us with its Advent truck campaign – over 300,000 units are packaged as Advent calendars, each with 24 items of attention.
We are celebrating our anniversary: For 20 years, we have been developing steadily in one direction: upwards.
The IDEAL GROUP is now also certified for 12 months according to IFS Food for the handling of food, the audit has been completed. Almost at the same time, we were also certified by the manufacturer Mars according to its very strict and comprehensive specifications.
Our new pallet wrapping line for up to 120 pallets/hour goes into operation. We are preparing to open up additional storage and production capacities by expanding the pick warehouse from one to three floors.
Parallel to the e-commerce business, we are continuously expanding our food and beverage sector. We were able to successfully handle several large campaigns for Coca Cola in 2014. The first co-packing and display construction projects were implemented for our new customer Bempflinger Food.
Start of our comprehensive multichannel activities for the new Intersport online store. We have to expand again for our food and beverage handling area: The groundbreaking ceremony for an additional production hall with 5,000 square meters of logistics space took place in March, followed by the inauguration in June.
Introduction of pick-by-voice. This innovation increased process reliability and created the desired continuous transparency in the warehouse. Paperless picking processes and internal stock transfers guarantee error-free processing and inventory security. We attached great importance to the possibility of connecting different customer systems.
Expansion of the logistics centre at the Böllinger Höfe site. Construction of the fully automated high-bay warehouse with over 16,000 pallet spaces. Up to 280 pallets can be stored and retrieved per hour – optimal conditions to serve regional customers “just-in-time“. As a result, we gained customers in the automotive sector.
Targeted expansion of IS IDEAL-SERVICES to become a competent partner in the area of contracts for work and services as well as further development of the temporary employment offer for clients and expansion of the team.
Founding of IS IDEAL-SERVICES, our subsidiary for the hiring out of employees. Acquisition of several customers in the mail order business.
Foundation of the subsidiaries IDEAL-SOLUTION GmbH and IDEAL-FULLSERVICE GmbH. Expansion of the range of services to include credit assessment, debtor management and debt collection*, to complete multichannel commerce.
Commissioning of a new logistics centre with an additional 12,000 sqm of production space, creation of 40 new jobs.
Six-figure investments, e.g. in cardboard presses, for the separation and sustainable disposal of materials and thus optimisation of the environmental balance. Participation in several trade fairs with own stand.
By passing the audit, now certified for food handling. Official partner of the PSI association. Membership of the “Sweets Global Network” association. Establishment of the company’s own spirits warehouse and expansion by a further 10,000 square metres of production space.
In April, 10th anniversary of the company since its foundation in 1995. Very positive business development. Introduction of new software specially developed for our requirements to ensure quality from order picking to on-time delivery.
Relocation from Talheim to the Heilbronn industrial park “Böllinger Höfe“. All-round optimised facilities, workflows and production processes on 5,600 sqm of production space and 4,000 sqm of external storage for a significantly more efficient deployment of the 170 employees in the service of a good 200 customers.
Expansion of the field of activity to the food sector. Fulfilment of the special requirements for handling food and acquisition of several well-known food customers. Expanded range of services by handling and storing pharmaceuticals and cosmetics in accordance with the relevant hygiene regulations. Due to the good business development and the shortage of logistics space caused by growth, plans are made to move to Heilbronn. Development of optimised processes and ideal structures.
Conversion to a new merchandise management system specially created for IDEAL-PACK. Establishment of special, secure interfaces for customers to query the status of stored products. Firm customer base with now over 150 companies at home and abroad.
Expansion of the production facilities to 4,000 square metres. Increase in the number of employees to 82. Establishment of the first training positions. Purchase of a new shrink-wrapping machine with integrated camera system for reading and sorting addresses.
Move to new production facilities with 2,600 sqm of production space. Permanent staff of 40 employees. New investments in technologically high-quality, high-performance machines. Expansion in the area of data processing.
